Lens Based Media: Context

Soar Dance Programme

Soar is one of the youth programmes formed under Crosspower 274 Ministries, which is a Christian-based youth intervention and development organisation based in Otara.Their goal is to give members the opportunity to become apart of something where they can share their passion for dance in a supportive and safe environment. I will use street art posters as a way to advertise Soar as it will gain recognition for the programme. The posters will be aimed at the youth of South Auckland and will help occupy more young people with something positive, other than being on the streets and becoming involved with gangs, drugs and alcohol. The programme's scripture reflects Soar's vision for the youth:

"But those who hope in the Lord

will renew their strength.

They will SOAR like wings on eagles,

they will run and not grow weary,

they will walk and not be faint!"

- Isaiah 40:31

I will 'install' my posters on streets of South Auckland as opposed to an art gallery or museum, taking it out of the high art context and turning it into street art, where they can be easily viewed by the public and my intended audience, which is the youth.
