Lens Based Media: Light Differences

Direct Light

In all three images, I set the camera to outdoor white balance because we were taking the images outside. This image has a deep depth of field because everything in the image is in focus. The direct light characteristics in this image are the high-contrast and bright light hitting her face and the heavy and hard-edged shadows on Tyler's clothing.

Diffused Light

In this image, I used a screen to put between the sun and Tyler to diffuse the light. The shadows became less harsh and were lighter and more blurred.

Reflected Light

I used a gold reflector in this image to reflect the sun's light onto Tyler's face. I think that this light would be good for my self-portrait work because it gives a brighter and more flattering light for the face.  I also used a shallow depth of field as only Tyler is in focus and everything else in the background is blurred.
