RRaW: Week 1b Exercise 2b | Writing about an image

John Pule, 'There Will Be Another Time', Oil Ink and Pencil on Canvas, 201 x 188cm
John Pule's, There Will Be Another Time, is almost like a contemporary take on the idea of creating a painting based on the New Zealand forest. The little dark green clouds remind me of thick bushes and trees. I can almost hear the sound of the wind brushing against the leaves. The intricately detailed black and green line drawings that emerge from the bottom of these dark green clouds make me think that maybe they could represent the tree trunks. The other green symbols could represent the animals such as the fish, birds and other creatures that may call the forest home. I can almost hear the cicadas singing amongst the grass, birds chirping from the safety of their trees and the fish splashing and slithering through the rivers of the forest. The light green background and blotches of grey ink remind me of a smell like damp ground, dirt and fauna. It also reminds me of the shadows that the trees cast against my skin, giving me cool shade against the harsh summer heat.
